The 2nd annual Million Meals Maine meal packing event was on March 29, 2015 at Deering High School in Portland, Maine. With 1,000 members of the community on-site over the course of three 2-hour shifts, we hoped to pack 200,000 meals. Our awesome volunteers exceeded that goal (and more than doubled the 2014 meal total) by packing a total of 217,728 meals!
So where did the meals go?
540 boxes-116,640 meals– went to Nicaragua through Feed My Starving Children’s partner Food for the Poor. This is the same organization that received our meals last year, and they are involved in a variety of programs. In Nicaragua specifically, they provide medical care through several clinics, they sponsor 22 orphanages and they also build housing units.
The remaining 468 boxes-101,088 meals– are going to Haiti, also through Food for the Poor. In addition to feeding the needy in Haiti, Food for the Poor does a lot of construction and clean water initiatives. As of last year they had built 10,000 homes in Haiti.
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone involved, for exceeding our meal packing goal AGAIN, and for doing your part to make a difference in so many lives. Can we double again next year? Stay in touch as we plan next year’s event by signing up for our newsletter and liking us on Facebook.
Thank you for your support.
